Wagons ho!

The second graders are embarking on a new Social Studies unit of study.  After weeks of studying ancient Egypt, this new exploration will keep us closer to home, both in time and place, as we learn about pioneers in the mid 1800s.   Earlier this week, we began the read aloud chapter book,  Westward to Home Joshua's Oregon Trail Diary, by Patricia Hermes.  This book is written by 9 year old Joshua in a journal format and includes many details of the challenges and joys his family faced as they traveled west on the Oregon Trail. As with other historical fiction, many facts about life at that time are woven into the story.  Ask your child to fill you in on some of the details!
