Last Friday morning many of us tried something new! We read on a Kindle, and the first-timers included Sandy and Betsy! Several months ago Ann and Sandy discovered a wonderful chapter book, called Pioneer Summer, that fit in with our current Social Studies unit. After some searching, we found that it was out of print, but was available as an e-book. Michelle obtained a set of Kindles and set them up for us to use, and today we all started reading. We talked about how this might be different from reading a print book, and discovered that a kindle does not have spine with the title on it and that this "book" has to be charged. I found that I missed having a cover illustration as a tool for predicting elements of the story before beginning to read. Ask your child to tell you a bit more about what it was like for them.
