As part of the pioneer classroom unit, 2nd grade students
experimented with natural dyes in science class. We used hibiscus,
marigold, onion, indigo, safflower, madder root and clover to create
beautiful colors. The students learned about the plants and then dyed
swatches of fabric. Next they will create "swatch boards" to illustrate
how the plant dyes create such a variety of colors.
